By Stephen Williams

You are probably reading this article right now because you are looking for a new pet or puppy for company and friendship. You may have set your eyes upon a Cavalier King Charles Spaniels puppy and are excited to start your adventure by purchasing or adopting one, especially after insistence from friends or what you have seen on the net. Before you do make the final plunge, do read on in this article to see if you will be able to handle this puppy.

The breed will set you back a couple of dollars in the 1800 dollar to 3000 dollar price range. The actual final price will actually depend on the current demand and supply conditions for the breed as well as being affected if it has champion bloodlines or not and whether or not it will come from a reputable breeder or trader. It is by no means cheap so it is wise to read up on it if it is really for you.

Upkeep and maintenance in the long run will not come cheap either. It will be prone to heart problems and hernia problems as well. In addition as it does get older and reaches the 9 to 13 year range, it will get its fair share of knee joint problems and eye problems as well.

It is however a lovable pet to have and it loves human companionship. It is a dog that loves to settle on your lap as much as possible and will snuggle and cuddle up to soft pillows and blankets if you let it. This dog is quite easy to train and will be willing to please and responds quite well to praises and treats.

Due to it loving human companionship, it may be said that it can be a little addicted to it, and the breed may develop separation anxiety. When left alone for too long it may become stressed out and start chewing things to destruction. Make sure that you have the right amount of companionship time allotted for this dog.

If you have canine allergies or a history of it, then this dog is not for you. The fur of this breed is not hypoallergenic and it is fairly high maintenance as well. Due to it being fine and silky, the fur will be prone to matting and tangling and so regular brushing will be required.

Should you have any plans of keeping this dog outside the home once in a while, then you should make sure that it is properly fenced in or at least leashed properly. This is because it has a penchant for chasing things like squirrels, chipmunks, low flying birds and butterflies to name a few. One it does start to chase whatever, it is not mindful of its surroundings and can end up hurting itself.

This is definitely not a dog for the novice dog owner, and a lot of preparation and discipline is needed to bring it up properly. Make sure that you know the costs and such entailed in bringing up this breed properly as both pet and companion.
