How To Put A Foam Saw Into Use

By Walter Thomas

Individual projects such as arts and crafts and business activities in the construction sector put into use a lightweight kind of material known as polystyrene foam. In order to be used the polystyrene material or any other similar one needs to be framed to the wanted sizes and shapes using tools known as hot wire foam saw. The saw is formed using a slim wire which is guided through a material to cut it.

The tool is made hot enough to cut through the material by being passed through a two hundred degree electrical resistance. The first type of the hot wire is the one created manually through used of pliers and is known as the preformed wire. The second type is the tensioned wire that is firmly positioned to a frame or bow.

Foam materials that melt easily once exposed to a very low temperature are the most suitable to be cut using a hot wire cutter. Some examples of such materials include polyethylene foams which are resistant to tear, the extruded polystyrene in several colors and the expanded polystyrene in white. In addition, the materials used to prevent explosion in fuel tanks and the ones for protecting against shock are also applicable.

The preformed cutter is used manually by an individual to cut the material into the appropriate shape. On the other hand, the tensioned wire should get used in five different ways, the first one being the manual use. Secondly, the saw can be used with the guide of a horizontal table that holds the material to be worked upon. This second technique is often used in the construction and packaging industry.

Thirdly, the template guided table can also be applied to cut the material using the saw. In order to achieve the high standard models this method is the best recommended to be used. The accuracy of the sizes and shapes of models are based on the skills of manpower employed. The accuracy is also achieved through precision of templates that efficiently guide the cutting of materials.

The fourth way through which the hot wire can be put into use is through the computer numerically controlled stages. The wires are guided to cut through the material by use of computer systems that are located on both sides of the material. The application of lathe attachments in the computer numerically controlled systems give the chance for creation of spiral shapes.

A push through slicer is the final method through which the tensioned wire can be applied in the cutting of foam materials. In this method, the tensioned cutting wires are positioned firmly either in a vertical or horizontal frame. Several sheets are created by passing the materials through the parallel wires with minimal use of manpower.

The two requirements that need to be observed when using this tool is the limits of lengths of the wires placed on the frames and the temperature the saw is maintained. If carefully followed, the best materials can be produced in all the fields. Some of these fields include, the architectural industry, aircraft designs and surfboard construction.
